The Bonnevilles back muscular dystrophy fundraiser with good music and bad shirts
IRELAND'S premier garage-punk-blues duo The Bonnevilles will be lending their support to a very good cause this evening when they join the bill of a special charity show at First Presbyterian Church in Belfast.
Andy (guitar and hollering) and Chris (drums) will be joining Co Down singer-songwriter Stafel in performing at the Bad Shirt Friday concert, an event which encourages patrons to sport their favourite garish attire while enjoying fine live music and raising money for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and Muscular Dystrophy UK.
It's unclear whether The Bonnevilles will be abandoning their traditional white stage shirts for the evening in favour of more eye-searing options, but ticketholders at the Rosemary Street event who make the effort to slip into their most offensively patterned T-shirts and button-downs will be committing crimes against fashion in aid of two good causes.
"Bad Shirt Friday aims to spark conversations about muscular dystrophy while creating a fun and inclusive fundraising event that everyone can take part in," explains organiser Ben Collins of the fundraising effort, which is taking place during Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month.
"Funds raised will help Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and Muscular Dystrophy UK continue providing essential services, advocacy, information and support for individuals and families affected by neuromuscular conditions throughout the country," he added.
"We want people to have fun while helping raise awareness of muscular dystrophy and fundraising to support families living with these life-changing conditions."
Tickets for tonight's Bad Shirt Friday show are priced at £10 via eventbrite.com, with all profits split 50/50 between Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Doors are at 7pm, with patrons encouraged to wear their 'bad shirts' all day while sharing photos on social media in order to raise awareness of the fundraising effort.
