Our Fundraising Champions

This year saw one of our most successful community fundraisers ever build huge support for MDI. Walk 4 Ollie took place from August 13th to August 18th, 2023. Ollie’s Dad Paddy Hickey walked 200km across Ireland from Castlebar, Co. Mayo to his hometown of Enfield, Co. Meath. Ollie has a muscular dystrophy called Bethlem myopathy, which is a rare condition affecting the skeletal muscles and connective tissue. Walk 4 Ollie set an impressive target of €10,000 but has now raised well over €35,000 thanks to Paddy and the wider Hickey family, as well as significant corporate support from eBay, Ardonagh Community Trust, Arachas and Aviva.

In partnership with the family, we were thrilled to set up the Ollie Hickey Fund. Funds raised through his event, and any future events under this fund will be ringfenced to be used for independent living programmes and services for young people like Ollie.

You can be like the Hickey family and host an event of your own to support our work by filling out the Community Fundraising Form or contact us at foundation@mdi.ie or give us a call at 01-6236414.
