Home From Home

The MDI ‘Home from Home’ self catering apartment is fully wheelchair accessible and is fitted with ceiling track hoists, shower chairs, grab rails and electric profile beds. Home from Home is available to book by both our MDI members and Members of the public with accessibility needs. The Home from Home is available for short time stays. It can be booked for a MAX of 4 nights.

If approved, you will receive a personal login to access the online booking system.

    Aids & Appliances Available

    The MDI ‘Home from Home’ Self Catering Apartment is fully wheelchair accessible and is fitted with equipment such as ceiling track hoists, shower chairs, grab rails, Hi-Lo electric/profile beds, an intercom system, emergency call buttons, an emergency evacuate chair, an adjustable kitchen hob/counter, air mattress, etc.

  • Accessibility van with wheelchair lift in a parking lot with other vans.

    Transport

    MDI located in Dublin 20 with an accessible route into Liffey Valley shopping centre and a direct route  to Dublin City centre. 

  • Modern kitchen with light wood cabinets, built-in oven, stove, dishwasher, dining table, chairs, houseplants, and a trash can.

    Kitchen

    The kitchen is equipped with an adjustable motorised worktop which enables the work surface height to be adapted to a suitable level for all users. It contains all modern appliances including a kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, Able-Table, microwave oven, blender, electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dryer, iron, and ironing board. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils, crockery, and cutlery. Milk, sugar, tea, coffee, salt & pepper are also provided.

  • Room with two black leather sofas, a wooden coffee table, potted plants, a framed flower photograph, and a skylight.

    Lounge

    The Lounge has two sofas a 60 inch smart TV,  an Alexa,  smart vacuum cleaner and reading desk.

  • Hospital room with two beds, a nightstand, and an accessible bathroom.

    Bedroom 1

    Bedroom 1 has two Hi-Lo electric single bed with a ceiling track hoist. This room has an en-suite. The bathroom is fully accessible and contains a shower. The bathroom and shower can be accessed directly by using interconnecting ceiling track hoists.

    This bedroom also includes a pull-out sofa bed.

    Bedrooms 1, 2, and 3 all contain a large smart TVs and Alexa.

    Bedroom 2

    Bedroom 2 is complete with a king-sized Hi-Lo electric beds and a ceiling track hoist. (Please note that this bed can be divided into two single beds on request). The room has an en-suite; however, this bathroom is not fully accessible and does not have a shower. There is however a fully accessible bathroom and shower directly across the hallway from this bedroom, which can also be accessed directly by using an interconnecting ceiling track hoist.

    Bedroom 3

    Bedroom 3 contains two Hi-Lo electric single beds and a ceiling track hoist. This room is en-suite, including a fully accessible bathroom and shower which can be accessed directly by using interconnecting ceiling track hoists. Bedroom 3 also contains a pull-out sofa-bed.

  • Bedroom 4

    Bedroom 4

    This is an unadapted single bedroom, containing two beds, suitable for a PA or family member. There is an interconnecting door between this room and Bedroom 3. This room is only available to those who have booked Bedroom 3 and need additional accommodation.

    Bed linen (sheets, duvets & pillows) is provided in each bedroom; however, we do not provide towels.

MDI's Home from Home offers a truly comforting experience—a sanctuary of independence where you feel right at home. While our dedicated team is ONLY available during MDI's office hours, rest assured that any inquiries, concerns, or issues can be addressed promptly through our comprehensive information pack. This pack is provided to all guests, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable stay from start to finish.

Guests are advised to bring their own slings. However, please note that the twixie clip slings do not work on our hoist system. We do have slings available but please advise in advance if you need to book one..

  • Take the N4 (City) Exit and after 2nd set of traffic lights take the first slip road, signposted Chapelizod. Past the West County Hotel on your right and we’re the first house after the traffic lights on the right (on the corner of Kylemore Road and Lucan Road).

  • Drive down the quays towards Heuston Station. Turn right over the bridge at Heuston Station and then left. Continue straight until you come to Chapelizod. Turn left at the traffic lights, over the bridge and follow the road round to the right. At the next set of traffic lights, we are the last house on the left (on the corner of Lucan Road and Kylemore Road ).
