Why Your Donation Matters.
Muscular Dystrophy Ireland aims to provide information and support to people with neuromuscular conditions and their families through a range of support services. Our objective is to promote independent living for people with the condition muscular dystrophy through practical empowerment.
MDI supports advocating for services to enable people with neuromuscular conditions to fully participate in society and to live a life of their own choosing. MDI also aims to support and fund research into neuromuscular conditions.
By supporting MDI, you are contributing to:
Support Services: Providing vital services such as Family Support, Information, Respite and Home Support Youth Services (i.e., Camps and Youth Clubs) and counselling services to individuals and families in our wide network across the country. Equipment services where individuals and families can borrow items, and transport are also available through MDI to those who need it. Facilitating peer support, community gatherings and social events form a key part of the MDI calendar, bringing people together to share, support each other and have fun!
Home From Home: MDI has a fully wheelchair-accessible self-catering "Home from Home" apartment based in the community of Chapelizod in Dublin. It is fully equipped with medical beds, hoists, fully accessible bathrooms, and a range of assistive living aids. It provides short-term accommodation for people with mobility difficulties and their families who need to stay over in Dublin to attend a clinic or hospital appointment, visit loved ones in hospital, attend an event, or simply require a short respite break.
Research Advancements: Funding research that aims to understand the complexities of muscular dystrophy and develop effective treatments and cures. You can read more about our research goals here. [link to Research section of website]
