Discover Boccia & Powerchair Football: Try-Out Day

Join us for a day of inclusive sports, as we try out Boccia and experience the excitement of Powerchair Football! This event is open to all ages and abilities, so bring your family and friends for a fun-filled day of activity, learning, and socialising.

Event Schedule:

  • From 10:30am: Arrival and registration

  • 11:00am – 12:00pm:
    Boccia Ireland hosting sessions for all ages (split for under-16’s and 16+).

  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm:
    Refreshments and social break.

  • 1:00pm – 1:30pm:
    Powerchair Football Skills Demonstration & Try-Out led by The Association of Irish Powerchair Football.

  • 1:30pm – 1:45pm:
    Powerchair Football Talk – Learn more about the sport and how some of our members are playing for Ireland.

  • 1:45pm – 2:00pm:
    Final Try-Out of Strikeforce Chairs used in Powerchair Football.

What is Boccia?

Boccia is a strategic game where players throw, kick, or use an assistive device to propel a ball towards a target. Boccia is an accessible, inclusive sport for all ages and abilities, offering a unique blend of fun and competition. Come and try it out as a family!
Parents, please note: This event is not suitable for children under 8 years old. Supervision is required throughout the day, as this is not a drop-off event.

What is Powerchair Football?

Powerchair Football is a dynamic team sport designed for athletes who use powerchairs. Played on an indoor court, it involves speed, precision, and teamwork. Some of our members already play for the Irish National Team—come witness a skills demonstration and get a chance to try it for yourself!

Location & Accessibility Information:

The event will take place at St Patrick's Sports Hall on the DCU Campus, Drumcondra. The venue has been chosen for its fully accessible facilities, ensuring that all members can participate comfortably.

Accessibility Features:

  • Wheelchair-Accessible Entrances and Facilities: The sports hall is designed with accessibility in mind, including wide entrances, accessible toilets, and hoists.

  • Parking: There is accessible parking available close to the venue. Staff will be on hand to assist with directions and to ensure a smooth drop-off if needed.

  • Hoists: For those requiring additional support, we will have hoists available in the facility to ensure comfort and safety.

  • Staff Assistance: MDI staff will be present to help guide you from the car park or drop-off area to the venue and answer any accessibility concerns.

Directions to St Patrick's Sports Hall:

  • Enter the DCU Campus through the Drumcondra entrance (off Drumcondra Road Upper). Follow the signs for St Patrick’s Sports Hall. Parking is available directly next to the hall.

How to Register:

Please register here for the event by Tuesday, 15th  October.

Important: This event is family-friendly, but please ensure that children are supervised at all times. This is not a drop-off event, and parents/guardians must stay on-site.
