New Physiotherapy Referral Service with Spectrum Health
We are pleased to announce the launch of a new physiotherapy referral service for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland members, delivered in partnership with Spectrum Health.
This service provides access to physiotherapy for members who have been referred by their neuromuscular consultant. Appointments will be available across Spectrum Health clinics in Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Cork and Limerick.
Who is this service for?
This service is designed for MDI members living with a neuromuscular condition who require specialist physiotherapy to help manage their condition, maintain mobility and independence, or address specific physical concerns.
As this is a limited clinical service, it is intended for members who are unable to access appropriate physiotherapy through existing public or private services, or who are experiencing unacceptably long waiting times.
How do I access the service?
To request a referral, you must:
Be a current MDI member with a confirmed neuromuscular condition.
Have a referral letter from your neuromuscular consultant recommending specialist physiotherapy.
Please note: This is a targeted service designed to support members who are unable to access appropriate physiotherapy through existing services. As demand is expected to exceed capacity, all referrals will be reviewed by MDI in consultation with the member's neuromuscular consultant to ensure appointments are prioritised for those with the greatest clinical need.
Once your request form is received, the MDI team will review and contact you regarding next steps.
What if I do not have a referral letter?
If you believe you are eligible for this service, but do not yet have a referral letter, you can contact your neuromuscular clinic nurse manager between appointments to request same.
Alternatively, our Siel Bleu Physical Training Programme remains open to all MDI members and does not require a referral.
The Siel Bleu programme focuses on:
Gentle exercise and movement
Strength and mobility
Physical activity to support wellbeing and independence
