General Election Key Commitments Chart - Care Alliance Ireland
MDI is a member of Care Alliance Ireland who are working hard to advocate on behalf of family carers. We are happy to share the resources they’ve created, including a quick 'Key Commitments' chart on 4 key issues to help family carers and others make informed decisions in the voting booth on 29 November. The 4 issues are:
Abolition of the Means Test
Increases to Carers Allowance and Carers Benefit
Increases to the Carers Support Grant
A New National Carers Strategy.

It is encouraging to see so many of the policy positions we have been advocating for over the term of the last Government included as positions in the various manifestos. These include:
The abolition of the means test for Carers Allowance
Increases in the Carer Support Grant
Increased investment across services and supports for people with disabilities, chronic conditions, mental health difficulties and older people.
Commitments to a 'Fair Deal for Homecare' or similar.
Care Alliance Ireland are disappointed that so few parties include a commitment to a new, updated National Carers Strategy which they firmly believe is vital to continue the development of appropriate, evidence-based supports and services for family carers across the country. Carers Alliance Ireland will continue to push for this in the next Dáil term, regardless of who forms a Government following the election. (Please see their event on this very topic - National Carers Strategy 2.0 - taking place on December 11th online. Details here).
