[Special Report] MDI Barretstown Family Camp 2026: A Weekend to Remember
MDI were delighted to team up with Barretstown for our third annual Family Summer Camp. From the 15th to the 17th of May, we welcomed 30 families, totalling 140 campers, for a weekend full of laughter and connection.
With fully adapted cottages and a programme designed so that every participant could take part, families enjoyed rock climbing, horse riding, archery, fishing, arts and crafts, film-making, and plenty of social activities in between.
The feedback speaks for itself. Every family rated their camp experience as Excellent, Very Good or Good, and many parents described the weekend as one of the few places where the whole family could participate together without barriers. Young members told us they felt included and accepted by their peers.
Here is what some of our families had to say:
"Families that include wheelchair users find it very difficult to find suitable accommodation that they can all stay at together, so Barretstown is perfect for us."
"It was amazing, our child could join in on every activity and enjoy the experience."
"This is a weekend we as a family look forward to so much. It's fun and such a support for mam and dad."
Here's a breakdown of what parents and children thought about the camp. Overall, the camp received an extremely positive evaluation from parents, with 96.4% of responses rated Very Good or Excellent.
Weekends like this are a powerful reminder of why accessible opportunities matter for families living with neuromuscular conditions, and we cannot wait to do it all again next year.

A huge thank you to Barretstown and to every family who joined us for making the weekend so special.
