Physiotherapy Referral Service

Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI) provides access to specialist physiotherapy through our partnership with Spectrum Health.

The service is available to MDI members living with a neuromuscular condition who have been referred by their neuromuscular consultant and require specialist physiotherapy to help manage their condition, maintain mobility and independence, or address specific physical concerns.

Appointments are available through Spectrum Health clinics in Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Cork and Limerick

Who is the service for?

The service is intended for current MDI members with a confirmed neuromuscular condition who require specialist physiotherapy and who may be experiencing difficulties accessing appropriate physiotherapy through existing public or private services, including extended waiting times.

As this is a limited clinical service, referrals are reviewed by MDI to ensure available appointments are prioritised according to clinical need.

How do I access the service?

To request access to the service, you must:

  • Be a current MDI member with a confirmed neuromuscular condition.

  • Have a referral letter from your neuromuscular consultant recommending specialist physiotherapy.

Once your request form and referral letter have been received, the MDI team will review the request and contact you regarding the next steps.

What if I don't have a referral letter?

If you believe you may benefit from the service but do not have a referral letter, you can contact your neuromuscular clinic nurse manager between appointments to discuss your needs and request a referral.
