What is your career?
I’m a Holistic Therapist.
How long have you been in this career?
Over five years.
What led you to this career?
I loved alternative remedies and therapies. I had trained in Reiki previously and loved it. Then I got drawn into reflexology and tapping, angel cards etc. When I started them, I knew I had found my true calling. It’s been a great support as well when my son and I were diagnosed with CMT.
Where there any challenges in your career and, if so, how did you overcome them to become successful?
Starting in a new career path in my late forties was very challenging and adapting to study again was tough! It was worth the initial struggles! I have never been happier working as a Therapist.
When I started practicing Reflexology and working as a Holistic Therapist I did experience tiredness and hand aches. Time, supplements and living well have helped with these. I have found self-care very important. I am very blessed as, because I am self-employed, I can tailor my day to support what I need physically too. I had to push through self-doubts as well and it has been so worth it.
What aspects of your career do you enjoy?
I love working with my clients and supporting them on their journeys. I am blessed to work with all ages - from as young as 3 weeks to 98 years old! I love the stories and every day I learn something new.
What advice would you give to a child or young person living with a neuromuscular condition to achieve their career goals?
Keep working towards your goal. Don’t allow challenges to prevent you from achieving what you want. Sometimes we may need to look at doing things differently or approach our goals from another angle. Self-belief is important.
