Introducing the MDI Membership Card and Alert Card
We’re delighted to introduce two ways to support our members: the MDI Membership Card and the Alert Card. Both are designed to make it easier for you, or your your child, to access support and ensure important information is available when needed.
What is the MDI Membership Card?
The Membership Card identifies you as part of Muscular Dystrophy Ireland and helps us support you more effectively.
Why might you want a Membership Card?
Quick identification as an MDI member
May help speed up access to supports and information
Useful for MDI events, bookings and communication with our team
Can be helpful when speaking with service providers about accessibility needs, as it provides simple confirmation that you are linked with MDI and living with a neuromuscular condition
Who can apply:
Adults living with a neuromuscular condition
Parents or legal guardians of a child with a neuromuscular condition
Muscular Dystrophy Alert Card
The Alert Card is designed to support you in medical or emergency situations. It highlights key information about your specific neuromuscular condition that healthcare staff may need to know quickly. This is especially important if you are unable to speak for yourself or if healthcare professionals are unfamiliar with rare conditions.
Why you might want an Alert Card:
Provides essential information to emergency or medical staff
Helps prevent inappropriate treatments
Offers reassurance when travelling, attending appointments, or in unexpected situations
Useful for individuals of all ages, especially children, teens, or anyone who may struggle to communicate their condition
Important note: Alert Cards are provided by Muscular Dystrophy UK and as such, include references to UK healthcare bodies (e.g., NHS).
How to apply
Applications for MDI Membership and Alert Cards close on Friday, 20th February.
