We are delighted to announce the launch of the MDI Assistive Technology (AT) Support Service.

The Assistive Technology support service offers individualised support to members with a neuromuscular condition by providing them with valuable information, support, and advocacy on how to secure smart technologies that can assist members to improve challenges faced in their everyday lives. Our aim is to create a supportive environment where individuals with a neuromuscular condition can thrive and achieve their full potential. People with disabilities face a variety of challenges be it at home, in education, employment, healthcare, social isolation, independent living and funding.

We are here to support you, just fill out our Assistive Technology referral form online or alternatively, call our Support and Information Advocacy Line on 01-623414, and our team can assist you with filling out the form. A referral will then be made to our MDI Assistive Technology Support Team.

The service overall hopes to achieve the following to support you:

  • Improving Access to Assistive Technology: Ensure that members with a neuromuscular condition have access to necessary AT devices and services, regardless of their socioeconomic status

  • Enhancing Functional Capabilities: Provide tools and resources that improve the functional capabilities of members with a neuromuscular condition, enabling them to perform daily tasks more independently

  • Promoting Independence and Inclusion: Empower members with a neuromuscular condition to live independently and participate fully in society by removing barriers through use of AT

  • Raising Public Awareness: Increase public awareness about the benefits and possibilities of AT, and combat stigma associated with disabilities

  • Ensuring Affordability and Safety: Work towards making AT products safe, effective, and affordable for all users

  • Supporting Research and Innovation: Foster research and innovation in the field of AT to continually improve and develop new technologies that meet the evolving needs of members with a neuromuscular condition

  • Involving Users and Families: Engage users and their families in the entire AT access pathway to ensure that the solutions provided are tailored to their specific needs

  • Enhancing Workforce Capacity: Train and support professionals in the field of AT to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to effectively assist members with a neuromuscular condition
