Study: ‘The Lived Experience of Health-related Quality of Life for Adults with Muscular Dystrophy in Ireland’ - Health Psychology, University of Galway

MDI is currently supporting two studies on the psychological and social challenges experienced by adults living with neuromuscular conditions and quality of life. One, ‘The lived experience of health-related quality of life for adults with muscular dystrophy in Ireland’, Health Psychology, University of Galway, involves taking part in an online or phone interview; the other, The psychosocial needs of adults living with neuromuscular conditions’, UCD School of Psychology, involves completing a survey which should take around 15-20 minutes. You can find out more about each of them below.

We are conducting a research study on the lived experience of Muscular Dystrophy in Ireland, focusing on health-related quality of life. If you are diagnosed with a form of MD your insights are extremely valuable to us.

This research is being conducted by a MSc student Brona Mulligan from the Health Psychology programme at the University of Galway. Participation involves a 50-70 minute online interview (or phone, if preferred) where you will be asked questions discussing your experience with MD. The interview can also be conducted across a number of days if you would prefer, for example two 30 min interview slots. Your contribution will advance the understanding of the experience of Muscular Dystrophy in an Irish context, potentially influencing support policies. However, please be assured that participation is entirely voluntary.

You can participate in the current study if you are aged 18 or older, residing in Ireland and diagnosed with one of the following conditions: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Becker Muscular Dystrophy, Myotonic Dystrophy, Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy, Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy, Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy, Distal Muscular Dystrophy.

If you are interested in taking part please read the information sheet and sign the consent form available here https://bit.ly/3Tt6uYZ The researcher will then be in contact with you to organize an interview time and date.
