MDI supports Disability Federation of Ireland’s Pre-Budget 2027 Submission

Budget 2027: The least we can expect for disabled people

Budget 2027 is a test of Government’s promise to disabled people. It’s time to make sure they deliver. As one of its member organisations, MDI supports Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI) Pre-Budget Submission 2027, “The least we can expect”. The National Human Rights Strategy for Disabled People is now published, and Budget 2027 is the first real test of whether Government will deliver across every Department.

Right now, disabled people in Ireland are:

  • Four times more likely to live in poverty

  • Waiting years for essential health and social care

  • Paying €11,046–€15,617 a year in extra disability-related costs • Locked out of housing, employment, and public life.

This is not inevitable. It’s the result of policy choices.

DFI’s submission sets out key demands, including:

  • A recurring €55 weekly Cost of Disability payment

  • Investment in disability services and multidisciplinary teams

  • Sustainable, multi-annual funding for voluntary disability organisations

  • Accessible, affordable housing and transport

  • Transparent, disability-proofed Budget decisions.

How you can help
DFI has developed a full Communications Toolkit to support members and allies in raising their voices. You’ll find key messages, sample social posts and graphics, email and media templates, and tips for contacting TDs. Let’s work together to ensure Budget 2027 delivers what disabled people are owed.
