Opportunity: Volunteer Driver for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland
Role Title : Volunteer Driver
Overview of role
Volunteer drivers transport service users from their homes and other pick-up points to medical appointments, therapy sessions, support groups, and other essential engagements. A vehicle will be provided by MDI (Muscular Dystrophy Ireland,). This vehicle is stationed at MDI head office.
Garda vetting is required for this role.
Tasks involved In role
1. Transportation Services:
Provide transportation for individuals with Muscular Dystrophy to medical appointments, therapy sessions, support groups, and other essential engagements. A vehicle will be provided by MDI.
Ensure a safe and comfortable environment during transportation.
2. Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
Maintain a clean driving record and valid driver's license. B category licence required. Driver must be over 25 and under 75 years of age.
Regularly inspect and maintain the vehicle to ensure safety standards are met. A vehicle check protocol is in place to ensure this task is carried out correctly.
3. Communication:
Maintain open and clear communication with the Fleet Co-Ordinator, fellow volunteers, and individuals utilizing the transportation services.
Notify the Fleet Co-Ordinator promptly of any changes in availability or unexpected issues.
Skills and Experience Needed
Must hold a full B category driving license for 2 years or more.
Must use a mobile phone and an active email address provided by MDI.
Understand the need for confidentiality and not disclose information heard while on duty.
Have a friendly, sensitive, and respectful manner.
Be flexible and can use your own initiative.
Time Commitment Needed
Coordinate with the program coordinator to establish a flexible schedule based on your availability. Notify the coordinator in advance of any schedule changes or unavailability.
Location of Role
Volunteer drivers would cover the Dublin and Leinster Region.
Supervision
Every driver will receive regular communication from the Fleet Co-Ordinator. They will be available to answer any queries or concerns you may have. You will receive ongoing support and supervision from Fleet Co-Ordinator. Your suitability for the role may be reviewed after 3 months.
Training
You must attend training sessions on assisting individuals with limited mobility and understanding the specific needs of those with Muscular Dystrophy. The GLUAIS training course will be provided to cover this.
Those who need additional support in using online tools or platforms for training will be supported.
Expenses
Volunteers will be reimbursed for fuel costs at 0.24 cent per kilometer for travel to and from MDI head office. Diesel, road tolls and company phone will be paid by MDI.
