Research
Muscular Dystrophy Ireland’s Research Fund was established with the aim to support and fund research into neuromuscular disorders. This fund is managed by an MDI Research Committee which was set up in the mid 1990’s. The MDI Research Committee screens applications from researchers for funding and deem which are appropriate to our organisation. The main objectives of this committee are to:-
- co-ordinate research strategies within the organisation.
- keep the members of Muscular Dystrophy Ireland informed about current research developments both in Ireland and abroad.
- manage the research fund. This includes identifying new areas of funding and exploring the possibility of seeking funds abroad.
MDI is able to support and fund research in no small part due to the fundraising efforts of members, their family and friends. Since 2002, fundraising efforts have enabled MDI to contribute over €233,000 to research in Ireland and the UK.
MDI would not be in such a position to fund research to this extent without the support of our members who have worked hard to raise research funding. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
