MDI Respite Holidays / Camps 2018
Each year, MDI organises a number of respite holidays for both adults and younger members with muscular dystrophy. The venue all holidays in 2018 will be Kilcuan Lodge, Clarrenbridge, Co Galway (a purpose built Respite Centre, which is owned by the Irish Pilgrimage Trust). The dates and age groups for the 2018 respite breaks are set out below.
Holiday Category and Dates 2018
All camps for 2018 have now been fully subscribed to.
In January each year, MDI invite members interested in attending one of the holiday camps for the forthcoming year to complete an “Expression of Interest Form” if they would like to be considered for a place on such a camp. Places are limited each year, due to high demand, therefore returned Expression of Interest Forms does not guarantee an interested member a place on a camp. The closing date for completed forms is usually around the end of January each year as this allows us to establish interest for the coming year and arrange camps appropriately. Forms were posted to members in early January 2018 (and were also available for download from this website).
Expression of Interest Forms were sent out to all members in January 2018. The closing date for receipt of completed forms was 5th February 2018. All camps are now fully subscribed.
Holiday activities vary from camp to camp (depending on the age groups) and these include: the cinema, table quizzes, arts & crafts, play station, power soccer, board games, movie nights, comedy nights, picnics, swimming, shopping trips, fishing trips and visits to the Salt Hill Promenade & Aquarium, etc.
Photos (below) from previous Holidays and Youth Activities
Each year, MDI run various youth activities throughout the country as well as five Respite / Camps for both young and adult members. Below are a sample of photographs of members and staff taken at recent MDI Respite / Camps and youth activities, which hopefully will provide an indication of how enjoyable these events are.
