MDI depends on government funding to provide the core services that are so essential for members, and as a member-driven organisation, also depends on the support of all members. MDI’s governing bodies, the National Council and Executive Committee, are comprised of people who have the condition and family members. Member support is essential for the national fundraising strategies that take place, such as the National Awareness Day on 14th February annually, selling MDI Christmas cards and participating in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon, as well as the countless local fundraising events that take place around the country. Money raised from these fundraising activities goes towards the youth and respite services.
