Muscle clinics for people with muscular dystrophy are run monthly at the Central Remedial Clinic, at Beaumount Hospital and in Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin.   MDI’s Family Support and Clinic Coordinator, Margaret Goode, is available to support members and their families who are attending  these clinics.

The CRC muscle clinic caters for children with neuromuscular conditions up to eighteen years of age.   Children who attend this can be seen by physiotherapists,

occupational therapists, dieticians and orthotics specialists, and they can

access psychologists, assisted technology, seating and a range of other services if required. 

 

This clinic is run by Dr. Bryan Lynch, Paediatric Neurologist, with Dr Niamh Ni Shuibhne, Neuroligists. Professor Damien McCormack, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Mr Michael Stephens, Foot and Ankle Surgeon are also regularly in attendance to assess the need for surgery.

 

The Beaumount clinic (for adults with neuromuscular conditions) is held on the third Thursday of every month . Members who attend are seen by a neurologists and maybe referred onto other services within the hospital should the need arise.

A respiratory clinic is held every three months in held in Temple Street Children’s Hospital where children are seen by a respiratory nurse and Dr. Slattery. Respiratory Consultant. 

 

A member of MDI staff is in attendance at all of the above clinics to support members attending the clinics.   Anyone wishing to attend these clinics can contact their Family Support Worker or get a referral from their GP.
