MDI welcomes reversal of the €10m cut to Personal Assistants services.
Disability campaigners yesterday (05/09/12) called off their protest after €10m in cuts to personal assistants were reversed -- but vowed to return within two weeks if Government promises are not kept.
The Leaders Alliance group (of which some members of MDI are a part of) also requested a meeting with Tony O'Brien, the acting boss of the Health Service Executive (HSE), within two weeks to make sure their services are protected.
They called off their protest outside Government Buildings, and then Leinster House, after getting written confirmation from the HSE of the coalition u-turn on the cuts to personal assistants to people with disabilities.
But they want the meeting with Mr O'Brien to cement the commitment. Another protest also took place yesterday against similar reductions to home help hours, which were also part of €130m of health cuts announced last week.
MDI welcomes the reversal of the €10m cut to PA services and also calls for no further cuts to the home help hours, as this would also cause extreme hardship for thousands of people with disabilities, some of whom are also MDI members.
